FAQs

Here are some of the questions I hear most often with my answers. If you have more questions, feel free to contact me.

Is gluten-free healthy?

First, I’m not a doctor. I’m going to give you my opinion and you can do what you want with it. In short, no - gluten-free foods are not necessarily healthier than foods with gluten. There are even gluten-free products on grocery store shelves that are way worse for you. Some gluten-free foods contain more sugar to make them taste better or more gums to mimic the texture of gluten. If you choose a gluten-free diet, you will only be healthier if eating gluten was making you sick. Wheat was making me sick, so I am healthier without it.

If you’re gluten-free, are you also vegan or paleo?

For many people who go on a restrictive diet, it helps us develop an awareness of what we are eating that we didn’t have before. If we’re going to read food labels for ingredients, it’s not much of a stretch to read everything else there too. Lots of us become much more health conscious because of it - eliminating or avoiding other things like additives, preservatives, processed food, and even meat or dairy. For me, I’ve chosen to eat more whole foods, with most of my groceries coming from the produce section. I enjoy sweets, so I consume them in moderation… most of the time.
